Outreach seminar on scheme for strengthening of pharmaceutical industry

Zero Effect Zero Defect (ZEZD) Policy will improve the quality standards of pharmaceuticals and promote sustainable development of the Pharma Manufacturing Sector, says Shri Mahendra Kumar Parakh, IAS, Commissioner, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Rajasthan

PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry in association with Department of Pharmaceutical, Government of India and SIDBI organized an outreach “Seminar on Scheme for Strengthening of Pharmaceutical Industry (SPI)” on 10th August 2022 at PHD House, Jaipur.

Welcoming the eminent Speakers and delegates Shri Digvijay Dhabriya, Chair, PHDCCI-Rajasthan Chapter informed that Rajasthan has tremendous potential to emerge as most preferred destination for Pharma Industry due to availability of a favourable eco-system, robust policy framework by the Government and strategic location of the State. The proposed Scheme on Strengthening of Pharma Industries would tremendously benefit the Pharma units in Rajasthan and benefit them with capacity building and increasing their competitiveness to grow their businesses.

Speaking Shri Mahendra Kumar Parakh, IAS, Commissioner, Department of Industries & Commerce, Government of Rajasthan in his Chief Guest address appreciated the Scheme on SPI. He emphasized that there is tremendous scope in Pharma sector owing to the initiative of Government of Rajasthan in promoting Medical Devices and Bulk Drug Park in the State and the investor friendly policies brought out by the State. The “Nirogi Rajasthan Mission” launched by Government of Rajasthan has created huge opportunities for Pharma Sector and hoped that the sector following Zero Effect Zero Defect (ZEZD) Policy will improve their quality standards and promote sustainable development of the Sector. He further informed that State has registered 42% growth in exports from Rs. 52000 Crore to Rs. 72000 Crore and hoped that the exports form Pharma Sector would also increase from the existing level of around Rs. 3000 Crore to Rs. 6000 Crore in times to come.

Shri Abhishek Singh, IFS, Deputy Secretary, Department of Pharmaceutical, Government of India in his Guest of Honour address outlined the features of Scheme on SPI which is a move towards self-reliance and aiming at promoting cluster development, motivating MSMEs/SMEs to improve their quality standards and move towards WHOGMP Standards. He hoped that large number of Pharma units will take advantage of the Scheme and hope that 400-500 Pharma units would upgrade to WHOGMP Standard taking advantage of this Scheme.

Shri Vinod Kalani, President, Rajasthan Pharmaceuticals Manufacturers Association and Shri Vishal Baid, President Polymedicure Ltd. in their addresses presented landscape of Pharmaceutical industry in Rajasthan. It was informed that Rajasthan has around 90 Formulation units and more than 350 Medical Devices units besides large number of surgical units operating in different parts of the State. Alwar and Jaipur are the major clusters, Mr. Kalani added. Presently 70 to 80% of Medical devices requirement are being imported and there are huge opportunities for putting up import substitute units in Rajasthan, Mr. Baid added.

Dr. S. S. Acharya, General Manager and Mr. Amulya Mishra, Addl.  GM, SIDBI made detailed presentation on the various features of Scheme of SPI.

Shri Ajay Phatak, and Shri Rajkamal Chhipa, Drug Controller, Government of Rajasthan emphasized on quality standards for Pharma sector  and move towards WHOGMP Standard to taking advantage of SPI and other central and State Government Policies to become more competitive and take maximum market share in domestic and export markets.

The Seminar was attended by more than 130 delegates of Pharma Sector from different districts of Rajasthan and during open house session many of them raised many questions/doubts on the operative parts of the Scheme on SPI which were suitable replied and cleared by the official from Department of Pharmaceutical and SIDBI.

Ltd., General Secretary, Rajasthan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association & Vice President, Indian Pharmaceutical Association, Rajasthan State thanked Department of Pharmaceutical for organizing this important Seminar on the Scheme of SPI with PHD Chamber and assured DoP and Government of Rajasthan that Chamber would continue to organize such meaningful programs in future for sustainable development of Pharma Sector in the State and if need arises organizing awareness programs in different clusters and handhold Pharma sector for availing benefits stipulated in the Scheme on SPI.
