Indigenous marine-grade aluminum will be used in the construction of ships

Indian Coast Guard (ICG) and Hindalco Industries on May 10, 2024 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in New Delhi for the purpose of manufacturing and supplying indigenous marine-grade aluminum to public and private shipyards of India for construction of ships. Signed. This MoU will also provide benefits like quarterly pricing, priority in supply and discount on selling amount.

The Indian Coast Guard currently operates a fleet of 67 aluminium-hulled vessels capable of operating in shallow waters. The Indian Coast Guard plans to induct more such ships to further boost coastal security using indigenous marine-grade aluminium.

This MoU was signed by Deputy Director General (Materials & Maintenance), IG Indian Coast Guard, Shri H.K. in the presence of senior officers of the Indian Coast Guard. Sharma and Mr. Nilesh Kaul, Chief Executive Officer, Downstream Aluminum Business at Hindalco.
