The fifth Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) of the Adamya-class, ‘Achal’, was launched by Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL) for the Indian Coast Guard (ICG). The launch ceremony was officiated by Smt. Kavita Harbola, in the presence of ADG Anil Kumar Harbola, Coast Guard Commander (Western Seaboard).

Part of a series of eight vessels under a contract awarded in March 2022, FPV ‘Achal’ is a 52-meter-long, 320-ton vessel designed for high-speed coastal patrol and surveillance operations. It is equipped with advanced navigation and communication systems and powered by a Controllable Pitch Propeller system, capable of reaching speeds up to 27 knots.

With over 60% indigenous content, the vessel underscores India’s thrust on ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ in defence production. Built at a cost of ₹473 crore, the project also supports MSMEs and creates local employment.

FPV ‘Achal’ is tasked with coastal security, EEZ surveillance, anti-smuggling, search and rescue, and protection of offshore assets. It adds significant strength to the ICG’s operational capabilities across India’s vast maritime zones.
