Kerala Gets ICG Jetty for Maritime Safety
The establishment of this dedicated jetty underscores the nation’s commitment to safeguarding its maritime interests and ensuring the safety and security of its coastal communities. By providing enhanced logistical support and improved response times, the Vizhinjam jetty will undoubtedly contribute to a more robust and effective coastal security apparatus in the region.
The 76.7-metre-long state-of-the-art jetty, funded by the ICG and constructed by the Kerala Maritime Board at a cost of approximately ₹25 crore, will facilitate the berthing of two 30-meter Coast Guard vessels. This development marks a strategic enhancement for maritime patrol and rescue operations in the region.
Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Rakesh Pal, formally inaugurated the facility in the presence of senior officials from the Indian Army, Kerala Maritime Board, Adani Ports, and local authorities.
The commissioning of this jetty comes as part of broader efforts to improve India’s maritime infrastructure, especially in the context of increased coastal threats and the growing importance of safeguarding the nation’s blue economy.
