# NBSS National Deputy Chairman raises concerns over coordinated suspicious digital targeting of family members, urges immediate institutional intervention to safeguard citizens’ digital rights

Dr. Bhargav Mallappa, National Deputy Chairman of the People Forum of India (NBSS), has formally approached the Supreme Court in connection with a suspected attempt at unauthorised digital surveillance and suspicious mobile targeting involving multiple members of his family through the messaging platform Telegram and Whattsapp.

The move comes following the filing of an official complaint on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal regarding suspicious links and digital activity originating from an unidentified source on April 11, 2026. Similar messages and links were also reportedly sent to Dr. Mallappa’s wife and brother, indicating what appears to be a coordinated attempt to compromise personal digital security, device access, and sensitive information.

The cybercrime complaint, registered on April 13 under the category of online and social media-related offences, has been supported with relevant digital evidence and communication records for investigation.

Taking serious note of the matter, Dr. Mallappa has now sought the intervention of Supreme Court highlighting the growing threat posed by unauthorised digital surveillance, cyber fraud, and technology-enabled intimidation to the privacy, security, and fundamental rights of citizens.

Dr. Mallappa stated that the incident reflects a disturbing rise in organised cyber misuse targeting individuals and families through widely used digital communication platforms.

“The increasing instances of suspicious digital targeting, cyber intrusion attempts, and online fraud represent a serious threat to the privacy and digital safety of citizens. Such coordinated activities cannot be viewed as isolated incidents. There is an urgent need for robust enforcement, timely investigation, institutional accountability, and greater public awareness to effectively address these emerging threats,” Dr. Mallappa stated.

He further called upon the concerned authorities and investigative agencies to undertake a comprehensive and time-bound investigation into the matter, identify those responsible, and ensure strict action under the relevant provisions of law.

Dr. Mallappa also emphasised the necessity of strengthening India’s cyber vigilance framework and enhancing citizen awareness regarding fraudulent and suspicious digital activity, particularly on social media and encrypted messaging platforms.
