NAREDCO Telangana Drives Awareness on Infrastructure Planning for Future-Ready Developments
With urban centres witnessing rapid growth and increasing demands on water, sanitation and building infrastructure systems, the need for effective planning and integration of Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing (MEP) services has become increasingly important for modern developments. NAREDCO Telangana, in association with the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) Hyderabad Chapter, organised a workshop on “Basic Requirement of MEP Services & Co-ordination with Architects & Other Consultants.” The workshop brought together developers, architects, consultants and industry professionals to raise awareness on the role of MEP systems in creating efficient, sustainable and resilient developments.
The programme focused on strengthening industry understanding of early-stage infrastructure planning, water management systems and stakeholder coordination, all of which play a crucial role in determining the long-term performance and sustainability of residential and commercial projects.Industry experts noted that inadequate coordination between project stakeholders, delayed MEP integration and insufficient attention to water management infrastructure can often lead to project inefficiencies, higher lifecycle costs and operational challenges for buildings.
Early MEP Planning Essential for Efficient Project Development
Delivering a session on “Initial MEP Footprint Requirements at the Project Beginning Stage”, Mr. Sanjay Bhilare, Member, Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), highlightedthe importance of integrating MEP considerations during the earliest phases of project planning. The session explored how identifying requirements for utility shafts, equipment rooms, plumbing networks and electrical infrastructure at the design stage can help minimise costly modifications later in the project lifecycle.
The discussion also underscored the need for closer collaboration between developers, architects, structural engineers and MEP consultants to optimise building performance, improve project efficiency and avoid coordination challenges during construction.
Pumping Systems’ Critical Role in Water Management
During the session on “Pumping and Motoring Systems”, Mr. K. Bhaskar, National Treasurer, Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), and Mr. K. Srikar, Central Working Committee (CWC) Member, IPA Hyderabad Chapter, spoke about the significance of well-designed pumping infrastructure in ensuring reliable water distribution across residential and commercial developments.
The experts highlighted how efficient pumping systems contribute to water security, operational reliability and energy optimisation, particularly in large-scale projects where demand for water supply and distribution continues to increase. The session also covered key considerations around system design, equipment selection and long-term maintenance for ensuring uninterrupted performance.
Water Treatment and Sewage Management Vital for Sustainable Growth
Addressing participants on “Water Treatment Plants (WTPs) and Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) for Large Projects”, Mrs. D. Padmaja, Secretary, IPA Hyderabad Chapter, emphasised the growing importance of responsible water management in urban developments.
The session focused on the role of WTPs and STPs in supporting water conservation, recycling and environmental sustainability. As urban developments continue to expand in scale and complexity, discussions highlighted the need for robust wastewater treatment and drainage management systems that support sustainable growth, efficient resource utilisation and long-term environmental responsibility.
The speakers also emphasised that effective water and sewage infrastructure not only supports regulatory compliance but also improves quality of life for residents by ensuring healthier and more sustainable living environments.
Following the technical sessions, participants engaged in interactive discussions on implementation challenges, emerging infrastructure requirements and opportunities to strengthen coordination among various stakeholders involved in project planning and delivery.
Speaking on the importance of the initiative, Mr. K. Sreedhar Reddy, President, NAREDCO Telangana, said, “As our cities continue to grow, the quality of supporting infrastructure becomes just as important as the quality of the buildings themselves. Plumbing systems, water management infrastructure and MEP planning form the foundation of safe, efficient and sustainable developments. Through this workshop, we sought to create greater awareness among stakeholders about the importance of integrating these considerations at the earliest stages of project planning and execution.”
Mr. P. Sravan Kumar, Chairman, IPA Hyderabad Chapter, added, “Many of the infrastructure challenges faced by buildings can often be traced back to decisions made during the design and planning stages. Greater awareness around plumbing, water distribution, wastewater management and MEP coordination can help developers deliver more resilient and future-ready projects. Collaborations such as this play an important role in sharing industry knowledge and promoting best practices across the sector.”
Through collaborative initiatives with technical bodies such as the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA), NAREDCO Telangana continues to promote industry awareness around critical infrastructure planning and encourage the adoption of best practices that contribute to more efficient buildings, sustainable resource management and improved project outcomes.
